Climate change, hunger and poverty, loss of biodiversity, forest destruction, water crises, food safety – what all these threats have in common is that a principal cause for each of them is in the way we produce, trade, consume and discard food and other agricultural products. We have more and more food stocked in supermarket aisles, while one quarter of humanity go hungry.

Much of the natural resource base already in use worldwide shows worrying signs of degradation. According to the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, Soil nutrient depletion, erosion, desertification, depletion of freshwater reserves and pollution of groundwater, overfishing, loss of biodiversity are clear indicators of already depleted or degraded ecosystems around the world.

In the Indian context, fragmented land holding, limited capital investments, indiscriminate use of subsidies, poor irrigation infrastructure are some of the factors impeding the agricultural yield in India.

We, at Green Commune, have an intention to make a postive impact in the agricultural world and strongly believes that true inclusive growth requires a long term vision for Agriculture.
